Agriculture & Rural Development
The main objective of our agriculture and rural development work is to improve the relationship between agriculture, rural land use and the environment in Europe. Our research centres on our expert knowledge of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and other policies affecting rural areas. The key issues we work on are:
- the integration of environmental concerns into agriculture, rural development and forestry policy through the application and evaluation of standards and schemes that promote environmental management, sustainable land use and rural businesses;
- the design and implementation of policy and other measures to promote sustainable agriculture including resource protection, sustainable land use and climate change mitigation;
- capacity building in new Member States and EU Accession Countries, particularly with regard to agri-environment measures; and
- the development of indicators to track environmental integration into agriculture policy and the delivery of environmental benefits from policies.
We undertake work for a wide range of clients including the European Commission, central government departments and agencies and non-governmental organisations.
