Senior Policy Analyst. Special subjects: institutional and strategic EU developments, environmental governance, transposition and implementation of EU directives, environmental liability directive.
Kristof Geeraerts joined IEEP in December 2006. He is a member of IEEP’s Environmental Governance Programme and is based in IEEP’s Brussels office. A political and environmental scientist by training, Kristof has six years of experience in academic research. From 2000 to 2006 he was a research assistant at the Department of Political Sciences in the University of Antwerp. In these years he mainly conducted policy-oriented research on the Flemish region's role within the European multi-level environmental governance system. In particular, he focused on the participation of Flanders in multilateral and EU environmental decision-making processes and the transposition of the water framework directive into Flemish law. At IEEP he delivers research projects on environmental governance issues and on the implementation of EU directives and MEAs. He is involved in the tracking of policy developments at the European level, in particular institutional and strategic developments (e.g. Lisbon Treaty, EU SDS, and 6th EAP) and developments regarding environmental liability and environmental rights. Since March 2007 he has managed a framework contract for the provision of external expertise on environmental policy issues to the European Parliament’s ENVI Committee.
