The Institute for European Environmental Policy was first established in 1976 with strong support from the European Cultural Foundation. The founding office in Bonn became the first hub of a pioneering network in several national capitals with a shared goal of analysing and advancing environment policy in Europe. The Institute is now based in London and Brussels but we value our partnership with other organisations which have grown from the original IEEP network:
Partnerships are an essential part of our ethos and working style and we collaborate regularly with counterparts and like minded organisations in a wide range of countries. In London, for example, we have an …agreement with the Centre for Law and the Environment at University College. Institutional links are backed up by a network of associates who work with us regularly, contributing specialist knowledge, skills and additional national perspective.
As a not for profit, independent organisation, our work is predominantly
based on programme and project funding. The Institute undertakes both independent
research work funded by research bodies and foundations and commissioned projects
for a range of clients and sponsors, including the EU institutions, government
ministries, environmental agencies and non-governmental organisations in a
range of countries. Some of our main funders, sponsors and clients include:
